Hello I'm Sophie Melhem,
A proud long-term resident of this beautiful community, an educator, a mother, and someone deeply committed to ensuring that Wyndham remains a place where families, small businesses, and individuals can thrive. Over the years, I have been fortunate to live, work, and raise my two boys in this wonderful place, and now, I want to give back by dedicating myself to serve the people of Grange Ward.
I am running for Wyndham City Council because I believe in the power of community. I believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of ensuring that every voice is heard. Our community is growing, and with that growth comes challenges. But with challenges come opportunities—opportunities to shape the future we want for ourselves, our families, and the generations to come.
My experience as an educator and a mother has taught me the value of building strong, supportive communities. It has shown me the importance of ensuring that our local services meet the needs of all residents, that our public spaces are accessible and inclusive, and that every family feels supported.
As your representative, I will prioritize:
• Improving Infrastructure: From roads to parks and public transportation, we need infrastructure that keeps pace with our growing community. I will fight for investment in projects that improve traffic safety, ease congestion, and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
• Supporting Small Businesses: Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. I am committed to reducing the red tape and creating a more business-friendly environment, where local entrepreneurs can thrive, innovate, and create jobs for our community.
• Affordable Housing: Everyone deserves a place to call home. I will advocate for smart policies that address housing affordability, ensuring that everyone—regardless of income—has access to quality housing options.
• Quality Education & Childcare: As an educator, I am passionate about supporting local schools and expanding affordable childcare options. Our children deserve the best possible start in life, and I will work to secure better funding and resources for education in our community.
• Vibrant and Inclusive Public Spaces: Our parks, libraries, and recreational facilities should be accessible to everyone. I will work to enhance our public spaces, making them places where families can connect, unwind, and thrive.
Most importantly, I believe in transparency and accountability. I will always be available to listen, to hear your concerns, and to act on them. I will work to bring your voices to the council and ensure that your needs are met. This election is not just about me—it’s about us, together, working for a better future for Grange Ward.

POLICIES
Improving public services
Our schools, parks, and public services are essential to the well-being of our community. I will work to ensure that these services are adequately funded and accessible to all residents. This includes advocating for increased funding for education, improving our parks and recreational facilities, and expanding access to healthcare services.
Investing in infrastructure
I believe that improving our roads, bridges, and public transportation systems is crucial for the growth and development of our community. I will work to secure funding for infrastructure projects that will make our community safer and more accessible for all residents.
Supporting small businesses
Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and I am committed to creating a business-friendly environment that fosters growth and innovation. I will advocate for policies that support small businesses, such as reducing red tape and providing resources for entrepreneurs.
Promoting affordable housing
Housing affordability is a major issue in our community, and I will work to address this by supporting policies that increase the availability of affordable housing options for residents of all income levels. This includes working with developers to create more affordable housing units and advocating for rent control measures.
Support local schools
I will also work to support our local schools and educators, advocating for increased funding, resources, and support for teachers. I believe that our schools play a vital role in shaping the future of our community, and I am committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to receive a quality education.
